Behind The Sermon Podcast

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
— Romans 15:13

Expectation = Hope

Expectation is not mere wishful thinking; it's the unwavering belief that something good will happen, transforming hope from a fleeting desire into a confident anticipation of God's promises.

Discussion

What are your expectations for this year in various aspects of your life?
Are your expectations built on possibility or pain?

Abounding In Hope/Expectation

Abounding in hope means not only possessing a confident expectation in God's promises but also allowing that hope to overflow, transforming our attitudes and actions with an enduring sense of joy, peace, and anticipation fueled by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Discussion

Think about this: having hope in God shouldn't make you scared or embarrassed. Instead, how can trusting in God's promises give you the confidence and courage to face challenges?

Share how your expectations, good or bad, have affected how you feel. Imagine if you had a mindset of overflowing hope—how could that change how you see things in similar situations?

Think about the Holy Spirit and overflowing hope. How does being open to God and His plans make you expect good things? Share times when you felt the Holy Spirit guiding you to have even more hope.

Application

Take the time to write out at least 3 expectations built on possibilities for this year. Take the time as a group to pray over each of these.

This is a time to build each others faith and anchor this year in the Hope of Jesus!
